Between the iconic landmarks and the allure of city life, a trip to the Big Apple is a dream in and of itself.

How much do cruises from Manhattan cost?

Or check out the iconic 77-story Chrysler Building, a true art deco masterpiece. And be sure to stop by the Flatiron Building, one of the first steel-frame skyscrapers in the world. Hands down, the best way to see New York City is with a walking tour. And head to Chelsea Market to sample some of the city’s amazing cuisine or hit up one of the many mouthwatering food tours. The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal at Red Hook opened in April 2006 on the site of a former container terminal, south of Brooklyn Heights and not far from the entrance to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. It has one berth and is used mainly by Cunard's Queen Mary 2 and Princess Cruises.

Richmondtown also features a collection of New York City buildings, some as old as 300 years. Cunard's 2,691-passenger Queen Mary 2 regularly plies the Atlantic Ocean between New York City and Southampton, England. This "crossing" voyage is a throwback of sorts to the "Golden Age of Cruising," when movie stars and political leaders traveled via liner across the ocean.

Or venture 104 floors up to the One World Observatory in the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. If you love history and architecture, you’ll get your fix of both at Grand Central Terminal. Marvel at the beaux-art landmark — and recreate your favorite movie scene filmed at the famed location.

Spend two full nights in Bermuda and several days at sea—plenty of time to enjoy everything the Celebrity Eclipse has to offer. Play basketball, go shopping or spend your time at the casino, pools or spa. Or eat and drink your way across more than a dozen bars and restaurants, including an interactive Le Petit Chef dining experience. These seven-night roundtrip sailings depart from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, making it especially easy to combine a visit to the Statue of Liberty with your cruise.

In March 2006, some passenger terminals were transferred (as management) to DP World (Dubai-based corporation). The company "Port Authority of New York and New Jersey" was established in 1921 to manage all facilities and services within the combined NY-NJ harbor area. The company also controls all vehicular and rapid-transit systems connecting New York and New Jersey, several airports, as well as real estate developments. During winter are popular southbound itineraries – to the Caribbean and Bahamas. During summer are operated mainly roundtrips to Bermuda as well as Transatlantic crossings (USA-UK/Southampton).

New York (NYC Manhattan-Brooklyn)

Or you can arrive a day or two early to enjoy the sights and activities of New York City. Catch a Broadway show, see the Statue of Liberty or explore The Metropolitan Museum of Art before setting sail. When it's time to board, book a car service or taxi to Cape Liberty, about 20 minutes away from the Holland Tunnel (without traffic), and get ready for your getaway. For ultra-luxury afloat, consider one of Silversea Cruises' 11-night sailings from New York City to Montreal aboard Silver Shadow.

It's also a great jumping-off point for cruises to the Caribbean, The Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, New England and even transatlantic crossings to Europe. With some 20,000 sit-down restaurants, this is a foodie’s paradise. Many iconic dishes have been rubber-stamped by New York— pizza, bagels, hot dogs and cheesecake included. Sightseeing in Manhattan excites and amazes like nowhere else— and every neighborhood presents a fascinating, unique personality. Tour Rockefeller Center and catch a show at Radio City Music Hall. New York cruises allow you to experience it all— by tour bus, subway, or on foot.

It's hard to imagine anything better than enjoying your first transatlantic cruise onboard the spectacular Anthem of the Seas®. There's the luxury of time and space as you cross the sea, plus stops in four European countries. Buses operate 24/7, though service is less frequent late at night. Some buses are marked "Limited" which means they will only stop at major cross streets (i.e., 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd) rather than every two or three blocks.

Taxis are readily available at all airports, and fares are either fixed or metered, not including tolls. From La Guardia, the metered fare will run about $25, plus toll. The fixed fare from Newark's airport ranges from $35 to $40, depending on final destinations. A Manhattan yellow taxi to Newark's airport is a metered fare (about $45), plus $15, plus tolls both ways. Taxi fares to Cape Liberty Cruise Port are about $35 from Newark Airport; $65 from JFK, plus tolls; and $70 from La Guardia, plus tolls. The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is 20 miles from JFK and will cost you about $45 in taxi fare or, from LGA, about $30 for the 12-mile trip.

In autumn are offered "Fall Foliage" cruises to Canada and New England USA. Considered the cultural capital of the U.S., New York City has close to one hundred must-see museums to choose from. Explore interactive exhibits from land to sea and even outer space at the American Museum of Natural History. And you can’t leave NYC without visiting the MET to take in over 5,000 years of art on display. Small coastal vessels, including those of American Cruise Lines, dock at the Chelsea Recreational Piers on the Hudson River, near streets in the West 20's. MetroCards are sold at subway stations, many newsstands and some stores.

The Downtown Connection offers a free hop-on, hop-off bus service between South Street Seaport and northern Battery Park City. Celebrity Cruises offers two seven-night Bermuda sailings from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, aboard Celebrity Eclipse or Celebrity Silhouette, both in the line's Solstice Class of ships. Port call excursions on the New York-to-Reykjavik itinerary include a visit to Halifax, Nova Scotia's Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, home to the world's largest collection of wooden artifacts from the Titanic. In Nuuk, Greenland, passengers can visit a local family and learn about their culture and customs. Stroll through botanical gardens or check out the world's northernmost 18-hole golf course in Akureyri, Iceland. Central Park is one of the largest parks in a metropolitan area.

Though New York is incredibly safe for a large city, use the same good judgment you would in any other port of call to minimize unwanted attention as a tourist. Keep wallets concealed; zip up purses, and hold them near to your body, particularly in crowded areas; and don't flaunt expensive jewelry, cameras or cash. If you are staying in town before or after your cruise, stick to main streets after dark, and hop in a cab if you don't know where you're headed.

Your experience during the crossing is just as important as your days spent in Europe. While the sun is out, head for the Solarium pool, an indoor, adults-only oasis, or the Vitality℠ Spa for a rejuvenating facial or tension-taming massage. At night, enjoy shows at the Royal Theater, rock cover bands in Music Hall and explore your favorite global cuisines in the main dining room or one of the ship's seven specialty restaurants. If you plan to fly in before your cruise, Newark Liberty International Airport is just nine miles away. You can arrange to be met by a Royal Caribbean representative there and whisked off to your ship.

Amtrak offers service to New York City along the Northeast Corridor from Boston, Providence, Hartford, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington D.C. From Penn Station, you'll need to take a taxi to get to the Manhattan port. For last-minute essentials, like toiletries, soda and water, you'll need to head east to the area around 9th Avenue. There are additional options for a quick bite if you walk south along 10th and 9th avenues.

Subway entrances are marked by an illuminated Metropolitan Transit Authority (M.T.A.) lamppost. If the illumination is red, it means that particular entrance is closed. As well, some entrances are marked "uptown only" or "downtown only" -- so be sure to take notice. Once down at track level, each side (uptown or downtown) generally has a local and express track -- so again, take heed of all the signs above you. System maps are posted in every train car or in the subway station, and free maps are sometimes available at station booths.
